Bard in the Barracks’ 2011 season will feature two productions: a remount of the company’s 2010 production of Macbeth and a new production of King Lear. Auditions for both plays will be held on April 26 and 27, with all roles in King Lear and a small number of roles in Macbeth available.
Macbeth will run May 28-June 2 and King Lear will run June 23-July 3, both in Odell Park in downtown Fredericton. The plays will be directed by Len Falkenstein and will be rehearsed intensively (mainly evening and weekend hours) beginning the week of May 1.
Auditions are open to the public and roles are available for male and female actors of a variety of ages. Auditions will take place at Memorial Hall, UNB from 7:30-10:00 PM Tuesday, April 26 and Wednesday, April 27, with callbacks from 8:00-10:00 PM on Friday, April 29. Those auditioning are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the play(s) beforehand. Auditions will consist of readings from the plays. Appointments are not necessary, but those auditioning should be prepared to be on hand for most of the evening, depending on turnout.
Anyone interested in auditioning who is unable to attend on these dates, or anyone requesting further information, should contact the director at lfalken@unb.ca or 458-7406, or visit Bard in the Barracks at https://bardinthebarracks.wordpress.com. Enquiries from persons who may be interested in assisting with the technical demands of the production (stage management, wardrobe, set, props, publicity) are also welcome. Members of the company receive honorariums for work on the shows.
